(BNA): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met the U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss city of Davos, on Wednesday afternoon, a presidential statement said. Both leaders discussed Afghanistan and regional situations, the presidential press office said in the statement. Both sides also hinted to their earlier discussions in Bagram airbase, adding that the decisions made needed to be followed by Afghan government and US national security advisor, according to the statement. The US president applauded Afghan National Defense and Security Forces efforts in war on terror, in particular against the IS militants, the statement added. Meanwhile, the U.S. President on Wednesday urged a “significant” reduction in violence by Taliban in Afghanistan to allow peace talks to move forward, a separate statement from White House said. “President Trump reiterated the need for a significant and lasting reduction in violence by the Taliban that would facilitate meaningful negotiations on Afghanistan’s future,” said the statement.
