Mr. Saifullah Ahmadzai (Senior Research Analyst) participated in a two-day conference from 21-22 July 2009 organized by Regional Studies Centre of Afghanistan (RSCA) in Kabul. This conference was organized under the title of “The Significance of Afghanistan for South Asia” with participation from various scholars from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.

The conference had four sessions: understanding the economic significance of Afghanistan; understanding the political significance of Afghanistan; Afghanistan and SAARC; and the relations of Afghanistan and South Asian nation in ancient era. After each session, there was useful discussion on the related topic among the participants.

Mr. Saifullah Ahmadzai delivered his paper on SAARC and its crises due to the political relations of its member states. In his paper, Mr. Ahmadzai focused mainly on two main challenges – the contrary views of South Asian countries and deep mutual suspicions, and intra-stateconflicts among the SAARC members.
