The Center for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS) participated in the Regional Workshop and Training on Security Sector Transformation. The workshop was held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 12 to 14 May 2009. It was a joint initiative between the Global Facilitation Network (GFN) and the Asia Consultative Group (ACG) in collaboration with members of the Association for Security Sector Education and Training (ASSET).

Mr. Muhammad Ajmal Karimi, Research Analyst at CAPS, represented the centre in the workshop. He actively participated in the sessions during the first two days, which focused on the notion of Security and Security Sector Transformation (SST). He also participated in the session that focused on developing specific skills and methodologies for conducting SST training programmes.

On the third day of workshop, Mr. Karimi spoke about the experiences of South Asia and South East Asian countries and presented an overview of the security situation in Afghanistan where he highlighted the current security trends, current security challenges and opportunities.
