(TOLO News): The Afghan Army Chief Gen. Mohammad Yasin Zia on Friday said the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) have retaken the Arghandab district in the southern Kandahar province from the Taliban days after the group attacked some areas in the district. Zia told TOLOnews that at least 200 Taliban militants were killed in the operation against the group in the district. Arghandab is one of the closest districts to the city of Kandahar, the center of the province. It was also one of the safest districts in the south before the Taliban launched an offensive two weeks ago. Security forces however have said that civilians who were displaced from their homes in the district are faced with some problems to repatriate due to land mines planted by the insurgents. Despite the Taliban’s setback in Arghandab, Kandahar’s Panjwai and Zherai are still facing imminent threats from the Taliban.
