This comes as the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a phone conversation with Afghan government leaders \u2013 President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah \u2013 last week informed them about \u201cnotable progress\u201d in the US-Taliban talks and the Taliban\u2019s willingness for a reduction in violence. Moreover, the US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper in an address at the Munich Security Conference stated that a political agreement is the best option to end violence in Afghanistan. \u201cWe have on the table right now a reduction in violence proposal that was negotiated between our ambassador and the Taliban. It looks very promising.
