BIOGRAPHY
Mariam Safi is currently a Research Fellow at the Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies (CAPS), one of the leading research centres in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Miss. Safi is an analyst in the field of peace and conflict and her research and analytical endeavors aim to evaluate the frameworks of conflict management, post-conflict peace-building and democratization as transformation tools in post-conflict societies. Miss. Safi’s research has been published in both India and Afghanistan.
Prior to joining CAPS, Miss. Safi was the Assistant Editor of ‘South Asia Defence & Strategic Review,’ in New Delhi, India. As part of this international publication, she carried out research on Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India. Miss. Safi has also conducted interviews and workshops with a number of high-level political dignitaries and experts from South Asia
In 2007, Miss. Safi was appointed as a research intern at the ‘Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies’ (IPCS), a leading research institute located in New Delhi, India. Her research at IPCS, focused on providing in-depth analyses of the political, security and insurgency developments in Afghanistan, including issues pertaining to the Af-Pak border dispute.
Miss. Safi also represented IPCS at the International Conference on Afghanistan, coordinated by Jawaharlal Nehru University and the Canadian Embassy. Miss. Safi’s conference paper focused on the reconciliation of a national identity through the promotion of local institutions of self-governance as a bridge between tradition and modernity.
Miss. Safi was born in Kabul, Afghanistan but resides in Canada. She is fluent in her native Dari, as well as in English and Hindi with a working knowledge in French.
