ISLAMABAD: President PML (Q), Chaudhry Shujaat has said that any foreign investigators were welcome as mere observers, while the assassination probe of Benazir Bhutto would strictly be carried out by Pakistani intelligence agencies.
Addressing a press conference he welcomed PPPP’s endeavors to hire any foreign expertise to probe the murder of Benazir, but government would only allow them as observers.
Referring to the forthcoming general elections, he reminded the press that he had earlier expressed his ready willingness to contest the elections even as early as 06th Jan 2008, and it would make no difference whatsoever if the date was shuffled, welcoming any decision of the Election Commission.
He said that even if PML (Q) suggested a delay in elections for whatsoever reasons and spirit, the party would be accused of being weak and trying to avoid elections, so PML (Q) would rather like to show its real popularity to Nawaz Sharif.
He expressed his surprise at the fact that earlier PPPP had announced a 40-day mourning period, and in the same breath they still want the elections to be held on schedule.
He lambasted Zardari for labeling PML, as a murderer, which was tantamount to sheer disrespect of the founder of Pakistan, warning to form a commission over this blasphemy and stressed on finding the real assassin, vowing to refer to Judicial Courts over the matter.
He refused to refer to caretaker government regarding law and order situation, since they were quite powerless themselves.
