Taliban kill 8 pro-govt militiamen in Nangarhar attack
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Eight tribal militiamen were killed during a clash with Taliban insurgents in the Batikot district of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.
The officials said the Taliban gunmen also suffered casualties during the firefight on Monday night, but exact figures were not available.
The clash broke out after the Taliban launched a coordinated attack on a post of the uprising forces in Lachapur area, the governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the uprising forces put up stiff resistance to the Taliban assault and lost eight fighters.
He said a large number of the Taliban fighters had also been killed and wounded, but exact figures were not immediately available.
Local residents said the uprising forces suffered casualties after security forces did not reach timely to their aid.
A resident, who declined to be named, said a woman was among the dead.
The Taliban have so far said nothing in this regard.
