JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A notorious Taliban commander has been killed along with four associates by his guards in the Khogyani district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.

Police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News that the shooting incident took place in the Perahkhel area of the district late on Sunday night.

He identified the militant commander as Fazal Subhan -- also known as Kaka Ji --who was killed along with four other fighters by his guards. Subhan was the brother of another commander named Mulavi Nek Mohammad.

Mashriqiwal did not provide details of what triggered the shooting. The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
