Herat traffic department head gunned down

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen shot dead the traffic department head for western Herat province along with a companion on Sunday, an official said.

A security official told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident occurred in Shiadah area when gunmen shot and injured Ghulam Dastagir Humayun, the traffic department head, and one of his bodyguards, but they died of because of the severity of injuries at the hospital.

No group has so far come forward to claim responsibility for the incident, but local authorities have previously expressed concern over the influence of armed opposition among internally displaced persons living in or around Shaidah Camp.
