Faryab operation leaves 9 rebels dead, 7 wounded

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): At least nine insurgents have been killed and seven others wounded during a security forces’ operation in Ghormach and Dawlatabad districts of northern Faryab province.
Ahmad Javed Baidar, the Faryab governor’s spokesman, said an armored tank and 16 motorbikes belonging to the rebels were also destroyed in the combing operation backed by air raids in Ghormach and Dawlatabad districts.
He also informed about the launch of an operation codenamed ‘Naveed’ to drive militants from the Maimana-Jawzjan Highway and Khawja Sabzposh, Shirin Tagab, and Dawlatabad districts.
The ongoing operation had so far resulted in the killing of at least nine insurgents and injuries to seven others besides wresting back some villages. He said seven landmines emplaced by militants were also defused.
A Humvee vehicle and a Toyota Corolla Fielder earliest stolen by insurgents and a strong hideout of insurgents were destroyed in Ashab-i-Kahf area during the operation on Saturday. He denied casualties to security personnel in the offensive.
There has been so far no word from insurgents in this regard.
