TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A 17-year-old girl has been shot dead by her fiancé in northern Takhar province, officials said on Sunday.

Provincial police spokesman Maj. Khalil Aseer told Pajhwok Afghan News the girl, Zahira, was shot dead by her fiancé Naqibullah in Majnoon-Qlbars village in Takhar city late on Saturday night.

Naqibullah had fled, but police had launched a manhunt for him. What provoked the murder was unknown, he said.

Pajhwok tried to talk with the family of the slain girl, but a contact with them could not be established.
